Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a safe, non-invasive, natural treatment for both body and mind. Using aromatherapy can be a gentle and effective way to help you relax, and calm anxiety. Prepare a few oils for your journey, so you can start using them when you feel the first signs of labor. We use high quality, therapeutic grade oils that can be custom blended if needed.
Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Labor and Postpartum
What Oils Can’t I use?
There are a lot of opinions out there about what can and can’t be used. Here is the list as published by the Higleys in their book Reference Guide for Essential Oils:
AVOID during pregnancy: Basil, Birch, Calamus, Cassia, Cinnamon Bark, Hyssop, Idaho Tansy, Lavandin, Rosemary, Sage, Tarragon, Di-Tone, Dragon Time, Exodus II, Grounding, Mister
USE CAUTIOUSLY during Pregnancy:
Angelica, Cedarwood, Chamomile (German/blue), Cistus, Citronella, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Cumin (Black), Cypress, Davanna, Fennel, Laurel, Marjoram, Mountain Savory, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Rose, Spearmint, Vetiver, Yarrow, Aroma Seiz, Clarity, Harmony, ImmuPower, Relieve It, Thieves.
It is so hard to really say which oils will cause extreme movement of the energies and which will not. You will find information on line where there are moms who have used therapeutic grades of the contra-indicated oils during pregnancy with no issues, and those that will not even use complementary medicine of any kind during pregnancy. I encourage you to err on the side of caution, and as always, have mom check in with her own authority to let you know what feels right to her.
